Proof of Vaccination Order and Sport

SOMHA received the following information from BC Hockey (Jeremy Ainsworth, Chief Program Director) on 24-Sept-2021:

“Hi everyone,

Please note the following updates received this morning from viaSport:

viaSport is not able to release their Proof of Vaccination Chart at this time, as the Order is undergoing further consideration before it is approved. In the meantime viaSport has provided clarity on how spectators should be currently viewed under the most recent Order. Under the current Order, all spectators attending both non-ticketed and ticketed sporting events where there are more than 50 people attending, must show proof of vaccination. It has been communicated that viaSport does anticipate that the Order will be updated, and the current position regarding spectators is likely to change

and also from Brianna Davey (Vice President, Member Services, BC Hockey) on 24-Sept-2021:

“Hi Everyone,

Further to our recent correspondence and Member Engagement meetings, please note that viaSport updated today that a DRAFT version of the Return to Sport Restart 2.0 chart is completed and now with Dr. Bonnie Henry for review. This may or may not be available for the public today.

It is recognized that indoor sport has been placed in a tough spot, with venues and organizations spinning out all manner of interim interpretations of the recent changes to our Health Order. However, it is important to understand that the delays with respect to this information coming are not intentional, nor the fault of viaSport.

In the meantime, we expect to be able to confirm the following information for indoor sport activities shortly, possibly as early as today:

Youth Sport (0-21 years) – Proof of vaccination is not required:
Youth (21 years of age and younger) sport programming
Adults supervising youth sport programming
A parent or other person providing care or support to a youth participating in a program
Youth participating in sport programming with adults

Adult Sport (22 years and older) – Proof of vaccination is required:
Adult sport activity
Adults supporting adult sport (eg., coaches, officials, volunteers)
Adults participating with youth in a sport activity

Spectators – at this time, the guidelines around spectators that are 12 years and older is not confirmed and therefore it is encouraged that our members work closely with their venues and facilities, who do have the right to impose stricter requirements that the PHO.
